We’re combining seed bead and gemstones together in this FREE bead-stitch Pointed Earrings pattern tutorial.. It involves peyote stitching around a 10mm round gemstone bead and adding bursts of bead around the bezel. This earring pattern uses: 10mm round gemstones, 4mm round gemstones, wire guardians, 11/0 Delica seed beads and 15/0 round seed beads. And earwires, beading thread and needle.

We’ve got a fun DIY for you using many different components like Limited Edition gemstones mixes, seed beads, necklace chain and instant pendants; all layered together.

Instant Pendant:

Get the components and pattern tutorial for the instant pendant in the Peyote Tube with Beadalon Instant Pendants blog post.

Directions:

1. Cut paperclip chain in half to make two 6 inch pieces.
2. Cut a 20″ piece of soft flex wire.
3. String on the following:
   1. Seed bead, crimp tube and seed bead.
   2. 5 round gemstones and seed bead. Repeat 6 more times.
   3. Crimp tube and seed bead.
4. Loop one end of flex wire through a Wire Guardian, making sure to loop the wire guardian through a link of a 6″ paperclip chain. Slide flex wire through seed bead and crimp tube. And crimp the tube with crimping pliers. Cut end to leave about a 1/2 inch tail. Slide beads over to repeat and crimp on other end and other chain link.
5. Open a jump ring and slide on other end of paperclip chain and link it to the ends of the chain necklace. This is where all the layers will link on.
6. Cut a 30″ piece of soft flex wire.
7. String on the following bead sections:
   1. Seed bead, crimp tube and seed bead
   2. Two small heishi and seed bead. Repeat and string on 24inches of this sequence.
   3. crimp tube and seed bead.
8. Feed one end of the flex wire through the Wire Guardian, making sure to loop the wire guardian through the end link of the chain necklace. (Same place you attached the paperclip chain in step 5) Slide flex wire through seed bead and crimp tube and make a crimp. Cut end to leave a 1/2 inch tail. Slide all the beads over to hide the tail end and repeat crimping on this this end.

9. Unclasp both of the clasp on the chain necklace. Open jump ring, slide on ring where all the layers are linked at and a closed ring. Do on both sides and add clasp back on.

10. Make peyote tube add to instant pendant. You can find pattern tutorial from the Peyote Tube with Beadalon Instant Pendants with components. Gently open the loop of the instant pendant just big enough to slide chain necklace on. And gently close it.

2. Slide a gemstone onto the eyepin and make a simple loop.

4. Repeat all steps for other earring.

Banded stones have seen a rise in popularity recently at Goody Beads, so we’ve recently expanded our line of banded stones. 

Banded strands have two different meanings in the gem community. Banded gemstones, for example, occur when the beads themselves have different minerals laced throughout the stone in noticeably distinct colors. This is common especially in agate geodes, which are fairly common in the US. 

Banded strands have multiple colors of the same stone type in one strand. Most gemstones have different coloring depending on the minerals present in the stone, but have the same chemical formation and crystal structure to still be considered the same stone. In the case of turquoise, because of the oxidation process in chromium it is not uncommon to find traces of brown, different grades of blue and green in the stone. For some turquoise samples, especially those coming from famous mines, rough specimens with these color differences might be discarded or looked over for lacking uniformity. Banded strands allow these specimens to be used and appreciated by gemstone lovers and designers. 

When designing with banded strands, arranging the beads by their shades is a classic staple. Ombre designs have gained popularity as more subtle jewelry has swung back into favor. However, all of the stones on each strand harmonize with each other, so feel free to pick and choose beads from the strand and pair them how you like!

We have banded strands available in a variety of shades, including more natural gemstone colors like sunstone, rhodonite, and tanzanite. If you like bright colors, try amethyst, pink tourmaline, or turquoise.

• (4) 12” piece of 1.5 mm leather cord
• (4) 6mm TierraCast Barrel Beads
• (2) 10mm TierraCast Crimp End Cap
• (6) 8 mm Large Hole Gemstone Beads
• (2) 4 mm Oval Jump Rings
• (1) Magnetic Clasp

Directions:

1.Place 2 pieces of leather vertically and 2 pieces horizontally and place a piece of tape over the center.

2. Take the top 2 pieces and loop down. Tape to hold.

3. Take the bottom 2 pieces and loop up. Tape to hold.

4. Now take the 2 right pieces over the 1st loop and under the 2nd loop.(working from right to left)

5. Take the 2 left pieces over the 1st loop and under the 2nd loop(working left to right).

6. Now hold all 8 pieces in center and remove tape. Start pulling cords to cinch in knot. To tighten pull opposite corners at same time.

7. With the 2 center pieces of leather, add 1 large hole bead. You may want to cut one end of the leather at an angle to help put the bead on. Now slide on a crimp bead, repeat 2 more times.

8. Repeat this pattern for the other side.

9. Crimp the crimp beads. I measured from the center of the knot to the center of a crimp bead approximately 1”. This will make a 7” bracelet.

10. Trim excess leather to put on your crimp ends. Cut one piece of leather on an angle to fit into end.

11. With a toothpick, add the E6000 glue into the cap. Push in your 4 pieces of leather and crimp. Repeat for other side.

12. Add the 4mm jump ring and the magnetic clasp.

Micro Faceted Gemstones

Black Spinel Cellini Spiral Memory Wire Bracelet

The basic design for the cellini spiral is using a 11/0 delica, 11/0 round Miyuki seed bead and 8/0 Miyuki seed bead. In this case, we’re subbing the 8/0 with some gorgeous 4mm rondelle Black Spinel gemstone bead.

Directions:

1. Start with 4-5 feet of beading thread. (This is a starting piece, you’ll need to add more to complete the spiral.) Sew on 6 delica beads, 2 pearl beads, 2 silver beads, 2 black spinel beads, 2 silver beads and 2 pearl beads.

2. Tie threads together to create a loop of beads. Tie two knots, making sure to leave a 5-6 inch tail end. Sew through loop once around.

3. You are going to peyote stitch around the looped beads:
– Pick up a delica bead skip a delica on the loop beads, sew through next delica.
– Pick up another delica, skip a delica and sew through next delica.
– Pick up a delica skip first pearl seed bead and sew through next pearl seed bead.
– Pick up a pearl seed bead, skip silver bead and sew through next silver bead.
– Pick up a silver bead, skip first black spinel and sew through next black spinel.
– Pick up a black spinel, skip first silver bead and sew through next silver bead.
– Pick up a silver bead skip first pearl seed bead and sew through next peal seed bead.
– Pick up a pearl bead, skip first delica, sew through next delica and up through the next delica to start the next row.

NOTE: As a helpful tip while you sew around your spiral, when you are picking up a bead, you are picking up the bead corresponding to the bead you just sewn out of. So if you sewed out of a silver seed bead, you should pick up a silver seed bead in your pattern.

4. Repeat step 3 for the next row. By this time, your spiral will start to take shape. Use a 5mm wide dowel to help guide your bead in a spiral shape.

5. Repeat step 3 until you’ve used up all your Black Spinel beads.

NOTE: Between your spiral, you’ll run out of beading thread. To add more, sew your ends through your spiral, looping around a couple of beads before cutting off excess. Add another 4-5 feet of beading thread to your needle, loop around some beads of your spiral before guiding your needle back through the path of where you’ve left off to continue your spiral pattern.

6. Your Cellini spiral is done.

7. To make your memory wire bracelet, make a simple loop to one end of your memory wire with Memory Wire Finishing Pliers.

8. Slide on an onyx bead, spacer, 3 onyx beads, spacer and another onyx bead. Slide end cap and 3 inches of leather and end cap. Slide on Cellini spiral, onyx bead, spacer, 3 onyx beads, spacer and another onyx bead. Slide on another end cap, 3 inches of leather and end cap.

9. Cut excess memory wire with Memory Wire Cutters, leaving about 1/4 to 1/2 inches. Make a simple loop with this end.

Make this arrow hook bracelet with flat leather. Leather jewelry pairs well with men and women’s fashion style.

Directions:

1. Slide gemstone bead onto the headpin and make a simple loop. Open loop and slide through leather slider bead loop. Close loop.
2. Fold leather piece in half. Slide the slider bead through both leather ends. Pull slider towards the middle to create a loop in the leather.
3. Add a dot of glue in the channel of the arrow clasp and use a toothpick to coat in the inside. Insert both leather ends in the channel and hold it in place for few seconds to adhere. Let bracelet dry for up to 24 hours before wearing.

This pair of earring is very unique because all the findings are handmade using multi-color Artistic Wire. Add the fine beauty of Purple Lace Agate to match the wires for a bold pop of color!

Items used in earrings:

• AW00224 – 18 gauge multi colored artistic wire

Tools:

• Flat nose pliers
• Round nose pliers
• Flush cutter
• Pen or small dowel

Directions:

1. String TEN 4mm gemstone and TEN Chinese glass alternating them on the 22-gauge wire. (Do not cut wire off of spool.)
2. Make a loop an inch from the end then pull one of each bead next to the loop you’ve made and then make a loop on the other side, without cutting wire. Continue making loops, alternating in different directions, while pulling beads up until you have loops after all of the beads.
3. Cut loop of beads from the spool, leaving an inch of wire on either side. Gently wrap it around the pen/dowl working it to form a bead.
4. Slide bead off the pen and onto a 3.25 inch piece of 18-gauge wire. Slide on a 3mm Chinese glass next to the wire bead followed by an 8mm gemstone and another 3mm Chinese glass and make a simple loop. Repeat on the other side and curve thee wire slightly.
5. To make ear wires, cut two 3-inch pieces of 20-gauge wire. Make a loop to one end of both of the wires. Add a 3mm Chinese glass bead to each wire, then bend wires at a 45 degree angle on top of the bead. (Try to bend and make the ear wires both at the same time for consistency.) Wrap wire around pen to create an ear wire shape. Cut off excess wire if needed. Use a soft grit file to smooth out the ends or a Bur Cup tool.        
6. Loop and coil 20-gauge wire with round nose pliers, making a 5-6mm loop. Cut loops to make 2 jump rings.
7.  Trim chain link to have large loops on top and bottom. Cut 2 pieces.
8. Open one loop of your curved gemstone link, slide on a chain link end and close. Repeat to other end of link and chain.
9. Open jump rings you made, slide on both of your other chain ends and through loop of ear wires you made. Close jump rings.
10. Repeat all steps for other earring.

1. Slide a lapis gemstone onto a headpin and make a simple or wrapped loop.
2. Open 8mm jump ring, slide on one hole of enamel link and through hoop of Gold Etched Round Hoop. Close jump ring.
3. Open 9mm jump ring, slide through other hole of enamel link, lapis dangle and top loop of Gold Etched Round Hoop. You want to make sure the dangle is behind the enamel. Close jump ring.
4. Open oval jump ring, through top loop of Gold Etched Round Hoop and post earring loop. Close jump ring. Make sure the white enamel is facing outwards.
5. Repeat all steps for other earring.

What you’ll need for Gemstone Leather Necklace:

• ONX8RDLH-8 – 8mm Onyx Gemstone Round Large Hole Beads

• A022071 – 1mm White Round Leather Cord
  Try other 1mm or 1.5mm leather cord sizes.

Directions:

1. Open 4mm jump ring, slide through loop of clasp and close jump ring. Open another 4mm jump ring, slide through closed ring and close jump ring. Open lobster clasp and clasp onto the closed ring.
2. Cut a piece of leather at 27 inches.
3. Slide one end of the leather through a 4mm jump ring in step 1, about 1.5 inch of the way. Make a slip knot. Use pliers to tighten the slip knot before cutting off excess leather end.

4. Slide on the following onto the leather:
3 onyx beads, 5 flat brass beads and 3 onyx beads.
5. Repeat step 3 to other leather end and through other 4mm jump ring from Step 1.

Stun them on your next zoom meeting with this pair of Turquoise Hexagon Point Earrings! They are quick and easy and only take a few minutes to make.

Directions:

1. Remove small bail from the turquoise pendant. Repeat on other pendant.
2. Slide hoop of post earring into the bail and put the prongs of the bail into the loop on the pendant and pinch them together.
3. Repeat Step 2 for other earring.

What you’ll need:

• 2mm Leather Cord (Item used in example A022075/Z018647)
• Gemstone Donut (Item used in example MZJ40DNT-M)

Directions:

1. Cut a 60”-70” piece of leather cord and fold in half. Slide the mid point through donut hole. **Note – it’s better to have too much leather starting out than not enough. You can always cut it before making the sliding knots in the final step.

2. Pull cord ends through to almost make a lark’s head knot.

3. Flip donut around.

4. Take the midpoint of the loop and make a twist. Pull cord ends through that loop.

5. Pull your cords to create a cross loop.

6. Make sliding knots to cord ends to make it adjustable. Check out previous blog on how to make a Sliding Knot.

What you’ll need:

Directions:

1. Slide in through the middle and clamp down onto the wire end and piece.
2. Wrap wire around and up. Take off pliers and clamp both sides of the wire and pendant piece.
3. Bend wire to come across the top of the pendant.
4. You can take your sharpie or some fine point marker to mark the top to indicate where you will hope punch for the headpin.
5. Gently pull off wire. Take hole punch to the middle of that dot you made.
6. Slide on headpin, coming under the hole you punched.
7. Slide wire piece back on your pendant piece. Fold wire to the back.
8. Cut wire so that it overlaps with the other wire end.
9. Bend out the bottom end, fold in the top end and bend back the bottom end to overlap. Use nylon pliers or regular pliers to cinch them closed.
10. On the headpin, slide on nugget bead, gemstone and Czech bead and make a simple loop. Open loop and slide on post earring hole. Close loop. (As an option here, you can make a wrapped loop.)
11. Repeat all steps for other earring.
