Q&A for So Vang

What inspired you to make this necklace design?

My inspiration came from my own cultural upbringing. As a Hmong American, there is an artistry in the silversmithing of Hmong jewelry. This is why I was drawn to the antique silver-plated oval chain. Its beautifully-etched design reflects the cultural inspiration and makes up the focal base to this necklace.

Why a bib style necklace?

The bib style is on-trend right now. The design look daunting to make,  but I found my pattern to be a lot of repetitive beading,  so once you get the rhythm, it’s really just putting it all together.

We love the simplicity of this bracelet pattern from BeadSmith. We used the Black/Red Luster SuperDuo Duets (SB03501) with Orange Luster on Chalk SuperDuo (SB02110).

Black and Bronze SuperDuo Duets Bracelet

Here, we took the same pattern from the Color Shifting Bracelet and redesigned it by substituting the middle SuperDuos with a size 11/0 Miyuki seed bead, a Miyuki Tila and another size 11/0 Miyuki seed bead. We used Black/White Beige Luster SuperDuo Duet (SB03491) and layered the black sides of the duet together on the edges for an interesting stripe effect.

We also used 8/0 Miyuki Dark Bronze seed bead for the outer edges instead of alternating between a size 11/0 and 8/0 seed bead. Plus, check out the image below on how we’ve sewn our ends. We had sewn in a size 8/0 seed beads at the end to loop in a jump ring and lobster clasp on one end and chain link on the other.

Bronze Legend Bracelet

We amped up the pattern and adding more rows of SuperDuos and SuperDuo Duets to the previous bracelet. This bracelet pattern will create a band width just under 1.5” with a cream and black stripe effect and bronze border.

3. Repeat steps 1-2 until you’ve reached the end of your chain, ending with a silver drop.
4. Cut your cable chain in half.
5. Open a 4mm jump ring and attach one end of the bar chain with one end of the cable chain half. Close jump ring.
6. Open another 4mm jump ring and attach the other end of the bar chain to the second cable chain half.
7. Open a 4mm jump ring and slide on one end of your cable chain. Close jump ring.
8. Open another 4mm jump ring and slide on other end of the cable chain and slide on a lobster clasp. Close jump ring.

Necklace Extra Tip

When you have finished stringing together your five components, we have two options on how to attach your 24” chain.

First, you can sew the chain at the end of the SuperDuo as shown in our photo below. Refer to the illustrated tutorial or image to see that you connect the chain end to the SuperDuo across from the connected SuperDuo of your side poinsettia component.

Or, secondly you can use a small gauge jump ring to slide through theSuperDuo like how we’ve shown here. However, not all SuperDuo holes are large enough for the jump ring to slide through. If it does not, going with the first option will be best to adding your chain.

1. Open jump ring and slide on drop crystal.
2. Open eyepin loop and slide on jump ring of drop crystal dangle.
3. Slide the following beads on the eyepin and make a simple loop:
   Bicone crystal, spacer, pearl, spacer, bicone crystal.
4. Open dangle loop and slide through loop of ear wire. Close loop.
5. Repeat all steps for other earring.

Gender Stone Necklace

The simplicity of these gender fancy stones makes it easy make and rock out to your favorite head-banging or -bobbing song.

Instructions:

1. Clamp the stones with a pinch bail.
2. Open a jump ring and slid on the male symbol bail. And closed jump ring.
3. Open a jump ring and slide on the female symbol bail and closed the jump ring.
4. Open another jump ring and slide previous jump ring with the female symbol. Close jump ring.
5. Lastly, open another jump ring and slide the top jump rings of both stones and the chain of our necklace. Close jump ring.

Radiant Legacy Chandelier Earrings

We embellished these stunning Cross Tribe Pendants with a TierraCast® link and bicone crystals.

Components Used: TC00189, A008799, Z007856, A011528, FTEA0003, SW01516, SW00105, CH00806 

Instructions:

1. Slide a bicone crystal on a headpin and make a simple loop. Make a total of two.
2. Open loop of crystal dangle and slide on side loop of link. Close loop. Repeat to other end.
3. Open oval jump ring and slide on cross pendant and middle loop of link. Close jump ring.
4. Cut two 1/2” of chain.
5. Open small jump ring and slide on one chain link end and top side loop of link. Close jump ring. Repeat to other chain link.
6. Open oval jump ring and slide on both ends of chain link and loop of earwire. Close loop.
7. Repeat all steps for other earring.

4. Open a 4mm jump ring and slide on a bead/chain dangle and a loop of your bib connector (Z018066). Repeat for the rest of the 10 bead/chain dangles.
   
5. Open an eyepin loop, slide on one silver bead, three turquoise beads and one silver bead. Make a simple loop. Make a total of 4.
6. Connect the two bibs with 4mm jump rings and the beaded eyepin dangles you’ve made in step 5.
   
7. Connect the top bib to a 24” chain link with 4mm jump rings and the beaded eyepin dangles you’ve made in step 5. Repeat to other bib end.

• Tools: Crimping pliers, round nose pliers, flat nose pliers, side cutter.

Instructions:

Step 1. Slide on headpin and make a wrapped loop: ernite crystal and owl bead.

Step 2. Slide on headpin and make a wrapped loop: light grey crystal and Czech rondelle.

Step 3. Slide on headpin and make a wrapped loop: ernite crystal.

Step 4. Cut 9” of elastic cord. Pull elastic piece to loosed its elasticity, two times.

Step 5. Slide on the following bead sections: (OR refer to image for a visual sequence)

1. Crimp bead, ernite crystal, Czech rondelle, twisted spacer, jewel glass, twisted spacer, Czech rondelle, ernite crystal, Czech rondelle, beaded rondelle, Czech rondelle
2. Light grey crystal, Czech rondelle, twisted spacer, dot glass, twisted spacer, Czech rondelle, light grey crystal, Czech rondelle, beaded rondelle, Czech rondelle
3. Ernite crystal, Czech rondelle, twisted spacer, jewel glass, twisted spacer, Czech rondelle, ernite crystal, Czech rondelle, beaded rondelle, Czech rondelle
4. Light grey crystal, Czech rondelle, twisted spacer, dot glass, twisted spacer, Czech rondelle, light grey crystal, crimp bead

Step 6. Loop one elastic end through toggle bar loop and back through crimp tube. Crimp tube with crimping pliers.

Step 7. Loop other elastic end through toggle round loop and back through crimp tube. Crimp tube with crimping pliers.

Step 8. Open jump ring and slide on the three bead dangles and loop of round toggle clasp.

Step 9. Close jump ring.

Owl Be It Necklace

• Tools: Round nose pliers, flat nose pliers, side cutter.

Instructions:

Step 1. Slide crystal on headpin and make a wrapped loop. Make a total of 3 dangles.

Step 2. Open eyepin loop and slide onto Crown Bail loop. Close loop.

Step 3. Slide these beads onto eyepin:

bicone crystal, owl (upside down), cabash bead, crystal rondelle

Step 4. Make a simple loop large enough to slide on dangle and charm.

Step 5. Open loop you just made and slide on 2 crystal dangles, leaf charm and 2 crystal dangle. Close loop.

Step 6. Slide bail through ribbon towards the middle. Make a knot on both sides of your bail.

Step 7. Slide on the following beads to one end of your ribbon, close to your knot:

jewel glass bead, divot bead, dot glass bead, rivet bead.

Step 8. Repeat to other ribbon end.

Step 9. Line your ribbon ends together and make a knot.
